The Holland House has been a place of refuge and community over the past 6 years. We have hosted countless dinner parties, 3 fantastic gallery nights featuring 25 amazing local artists and 12 awesome musicians. We have had 22 bands stay in our home and three students. Craig has created a solace in our side yard crafting a cottage garden style patio and our interior has been well maintained. This house is a house full of laughter, joy, peace and love.
Our neighborhood is one of the most friendly and warm places we’ve ever lived. Astor Park is a unique and lovely place to live. The community is organized and hosts fun family and adult events through out the year. In fact, the Astor Park wine night was where we meet most of our neighborhood friends. The park is two blocks from our home, offering tennis and other fun programs in the summer. There are a number of great public and private schools within walking distance, including our children’s school, St. Matthews (a wonderful choice).
We are sad to leave it but happy to share it with a new owner.
Our desire is to be mobile and available to communities around the globe and selling our home is the this the key to the future.
So without further ado, Here it is. If you are interested contact Jana at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 920.883.6874
It only takes a spark, so please pass it on…
We are excited to reveal the cover art by Kara Counard.
“Ashes To Beauty” is the name of our new album.
The name feels right, maybe a little cleche’ but it’s fitting. We have been married for over 10 years and this album reflects many of the highs and lows of our commitment to each other. Everything from our first love to betrayal and the act of reconciling our love for one another. It would fair to say that we are MORE married today than yesterday.
It’s not only for married people to listen to however, our desire is for the listener to hear a message of hope and encourage the connection that comes with commitment whether it’s in marriage or in community. We chronicle our journey, to show the process of healing that comes through reconciliation. When we are open and look in the mirror to see our impact on others, redemption comes and our ashes turn to beauty.
Release date to come…
We recorded our new album over the course of two weekends. The first weekend, Ed Bialach, a friend and fantastic engineer (and drummer) came up from Chicago, IL to our home in Green Bay, WI. He brought his top of the line equipment and we knocked out all of the base line. The second weekend, we traveled down to Chicago to finish the melody and a few extra’s.
We had the privilege of including a number of superb musicians on this album. Jahmes Finlayson, from Milwaukee, WI. stayed with us for the first weekend and poured his heart into the drum line. What a passionate man and pro! That same weekend, the infamous, Eric Blumreich punched out a few fancy base licks and Ms. Kimberly Souther graced us with her beautiful cello parts.
The second weekend, one of Craig’s old Ballydowse band mates, David Baumgartner shared his mad violin skills with us. Colleen Davick chimed in with some flute and tin whistle. Our dear Joby Morey, jack of all instruments, played some haunting accordion on a few tracks. And, last but not least, Debbie Baumgartner whipped up a choir for us. That’s right. We were sitting there finishing up Fair Land and I said, “boy, I can really choir on this part.” Ed said, “do you want a choir?” “Well, yes, but how do find a choir?” He proceed to call Debbie and the next day at 1pm The Alana Spring Hall Choir showed up!
What a blast and honor to be able to do this project with so many creative and kind souls. You can view all of the clips from the recording process by visiting www.thehollands.org/snapshots
PS. To top it all off, Josh Kufal shot video/photos of our process and is putting together a fantastic video for our CD launch. Now to find a venue to host our CD release. Any suggestions?
So today we sat down and came up with a list of things to finish on the house before we can put it on the market. Researched the market values in our neighborhood and starting to explore FSBO. We made a run to Home Depot to purchase the tall items on the order; paint, caulk, drywall and mud. Then ran a few more errands and a quick meal at our favorite mexican restaurant, El Sarape.
There were cars everywhere! People everywhere. Like the day before Christmas. Then I remembered, I live in Green Bay, WI right now and tomorrow the Green Bay Packers play in the super bowl! The buzz was everywhere, people were tense, excited and in a hurry. Green and Gold everywhere. In a town of 200 or so thousand, this is a BIG deal! I’m not really a football fan and Craig’s team is out but I do hope those fella’s win. I really do.
On to maintenance and lists. Well, maybe starting Monday.
This blog chronicles the Holland’s journey “From Here to There.”
Dreams and desires sit at the forefront of our minds but the reality of logistics and daily life sometimes offers more than one can handle. Yet, we continue on, with joy and excitement about all that is and is to come.
Our Dreams and Desires:
Over the past years we have been dreaming and casting out lots towards a simpler way. Our desire is to use our gifts and talents to connect and encourage community.
Our plan is to transition over the next 6 months by downsize from our 2600 sq. foot home to a home on wheels. This will allow us to cut costs on our current overhead and also give us flexibility in connecting with communities all over North and South America.
We’re starting to research how to sell our home and possessions, purchase an RV and veggie oil conversions, home schooling, insurance, and connecting with others doing a similar work.
Although our desire is to move along as “tent makers”, we know we will need some supplemental support. We are looking for folks that would like to offer encouragement through prayer, product and/or financial support.
If you would like to offer support or know of any kinsfolk out there that are interested in participating in this vision, we’d love to hear from you.
We would be delighted if you leave us a comment, suggestion or question.
